A code added to the rheumatoid arthritis register in the latest release is Ankylosing spondylitis - N100 (V2 & CTv3). This was flagged to us by an Insight Member - as this has added 30% more patients onto the register we recommended they check this further. This is the response they have received from NHS Digital:
We have checked with our clinical advisors and terminologists and they concur that 'Ankylosing Spondylitis’ is not a diagnosis of rheumatoid arthritis.
With regards to the code itself we have discussed with stakeholders, including NHS England, and we are looking to remove the code from the cluster in the final release of the 2018-19 QOF business rules (v41.0). We are currently working on this release which will be the one used for the end of year QOF 2018-19 extract. Once this is complete and goes out to GP system suppliers, they will update their search templates and patients with 'Ankylosing Spondylitis’ should no longer appear on the rheumatoid arthritis register.NHS Digital
We have no update as to when this will be rectified but we will issue a work around to this in the December edition.
