Disaster Recovery
Last year, a fire at practice manager Ruth Wood’s surgery in Leeds destroyed the building, along with invaluable data and documentation. Here, she describes how she and her practice team coped with this disaster, the steps they took to continue services for thousands of patients, and what precautions can be taken to ensure that all is not lost in the event of such catastrophes

Adverse Reactions to Influenza Vaccine
Safety is paramount and the Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) are there to monitor the safety of the influenza vaccine. If a clinician suspects an adverse reaction to the vaccines has occurred then it should be report to the Commission on Human Medicines (CHM) using the Yellow Card reporting scheme.

Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 (FSO)
This new legislation came in to force on 1 October 2006. Fire certificates have been abolished and provisions for fire safety became the responsibility of a 'responsible person' e.g.the Partners of the practice, or the PCT/PCO. The responsible person must carry out a fire risk assessment,highlighting risks and removing or reducing them
